Signs it’s time to replace your veneers

While veneers can last anywhere from 7 to 15 years with proper care, several factors can affect their longevity. Here are some signs that you should consider replacing your veneers:

Visible damage

Cracks or chips in your veneers affect your smile's appearance and compromise its function. If you notice any visible damage, it’s essential to consult with Dr. Kim. Ignoring these issues can lead to further deterioration or even expose the underlying tooth.

Staining or discoloration

While porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, they can still become discolored over time due to eating certain foods and beverages, such as coffee, tea, or red wine.

If your veneers have lost their luster and no amount of professional cleaning can restore them, it might be time for a replacement.

Changes in fit or comfort

Over time, your teeth and gums can shift, affecting how your veneers fit. If you experience discomfort, sensitivity, or difficulty biting and chewing, it might be time to adjust your veneers.

Gum recession

As you age, your gums may recede, exposing more of the tooth beneath the veneer. If you notice that your veneers appear shorter or if the edges of your veneers are visible, replacing them ensures a seamless smile.

What to expect during the replacement process

If you’ve decided it’s time to replace your veneers, here’s what you can typically expect during the process:

Initial consultation

Your first step will be a consultation with Dr. Kim. During your visit, he will assess the condition of your current veneers and discuss your options for replacement. He may also take X-rays to evaluate the health of your underlying teeth and gums.

Removal of old veneers

Next, we remove your existing veneers. We do this carefully to minimize damage to your underlying tooth structure by using specialized tools to gently detach your veneers.

Preparing for new veneers

After removal, Dr. Kim prepares your teeth for new veneers. This may involve cleaning, reshaping, or taking impressions to ensure the new veneers fit perfectly. Temporary veneers may be placed while your custom ones are being created.

Fitting and bonding new veneers

Once your new veneers are ready, Dr. Kim places them on your teeth to check the fit and color. After any necessary adjustments, the veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth using a special dental adhesive.

Tips for maintaining your new veneers

Once you have your new veneers, proper care is crucial to extend their lifespan. Here are some tips to help you maintain your smile:
